The Crisis and many problems of the industry at this time are apparently helping to unite the efforts andenhance the role of the Chamber as a working professional organization protecting the interests of construction companies. At the meeting attended by over 90 companies in the country and according to Nikolay Galchev , chairman of the section, the moving of the meetings to a regional level is a good step, the successful dialogic format allows everyone to express an opinion and, therefore, to come up with specific solutions pursued through discussion.
Issues discussed were around the actions of companies in the construction sector in a crisis, problems with plumbing and electrical distribution companies, proposals for amending the Law on Public Procurement Act. The legislation around the structure of the Black Sea coast, the VAT and Construction Chamber Law and unfair competition in the industry, relations with banks, municipalities and the state debt towards companies in the sector, etc.
A Decrease of 67 % of foreign investment in construction in 2008 is accounted for from the branch. Revenue has decreased by 45 - 50%.Unemployment in the sector is showing tendenciesof an increase and is expected to reach 10%. A fact is also the increasedinter-company indebtedness in the sector. These are just some of the trends this year. It is expected that the redundant workers will be around 35 000.
